Fred Strobels' first name was Fritz. He wore the combat pin for WWll.

Fritz would only take that damn Bering cigar out of his mouth when he hit the kip. He always told us that a few cigar ashes in our chow was good for the digestion! "Ma" Strobel was one of the best cooks I had the pleasure to serve with.
He is on eternal patrol. GB - DBF !

Subject: USS DIODON PICTURES

Thanks for putting the pictures online. I lost all my stuff in a fire years ago. It was good to see a picture of myself when I was twenty years old. By the way I am GM3 Billy Joe Thweatt not QM3. I can see why someone would confuse what I was because when we were short of personnel I would always be assigned to file in for them.

My Home Address is: 154 W. Part Place Ave. Apt B Panama City Beach, Fl. 32413. And my mailing address is: PO Box 611383 Rosemary Beach, Fl. 32416-1003.

I have just become a member of the Seawolf Base Group here in Panama City Beach and a life member of United States Submarine Veterans. It is real nice to see the old pictures and to think of the old times. Keep up the good work.

Happy Sailing

B J Thweatt

EM1(SS) Richard Wagner was better known as "Smiley", ....That looks like it may be Dave Waylen with Smiley there in the engine room."

...... And TM1(SS) Roy
Voelker, was called "Boats"

I think maybe some mention should be made about WWII vets with the Patrol Pins, like Boats, .....had combat pins.
