Hi, Jim,
I enjoyed talking to you on the phone last week. I served aboard Diodon from Nov. ’63 to Nov ’66. I am sending the photo I mentioned. Some of these guys should still have been aboard when you arrived.
This was taken in Sasebo, Japan in April 1966. We had been about 3 weeks on our second patrol of the 1965-1966 WestPac cruise. Our Corpsman became seriously ill and we ran into Sasebo to pick up a replacement.
I believe our Engineering Officer ordered the 10 cases of beer delivered to the pier. We made short work of that stuff. We were in port only about 2 hours before getting underway to resume our patrol.
Thanks in advance for posting this on the Diodon web site.
Sincerely,
George E. Sawyer
