USS Diodon (SS-349) History

The ship returned from Alaskan waters in late August, 1946 and participated in routine peacetime training in the San Diego area until March 1947.  During March, she participated in fleet maneuvers in the waters off the Hawaiian Islands.  A short call at Pearl Harbor was made upon completion of the exercises, after which time DIODON returned to San Diego.

DIODON entered Mare Island Naval Shipyard at Vallejo, California in August 1947 to be modernized as a GUPPY type submarine. This conversion consisted primarily of the addition of' a high capacity battery, a snorkel breathing tube and streamlining of the hull and superstructure.
