USS Diodon (SS-349) History

During February and March 1949, DIODON participated in Operation "MICOWEX" off the coast of northern California and southern Oregon.

In June, DIODON entered Mare Island Nava1 Shipyard for a five month overhaul. She returned to San Diego in October once again to participate in training exercises off the coast of southern California.

DIODON became a unit of Submarine Squadron FIVE, Submarine Flotilla ONE, Submarine Force, U.S. Pacific Fleet in November 1949.

A reserve training cruise to Acapulco, Mexico, was made by DIODON in December 1949.

As a result of her excellence in training and readiness exercises conducted during the first six months of 1949, DIODON was awarded the battle efficiency pennant as the outstanding submarine of Submarine Squadron FIVE.
