Roger Stern, and James W. Barnes) ************************************** Email from Roger Stern [rsternjr@halcyon.com], 04 July 2000: Here's a photo I sent to Barnes the other day because he is in it along with Bob Fisher-TM from the after room and (?) Williams TM from the fwd room. L.O. (Lube Oil) Smith is presenting to yours truly. Roger Stern *************************************** Email from Jim Barnes [mixie@up-link.net], 04 July, 2000: Hi Jim and Roger, In the picture of Roger receiving his dolphins, the guy on the left is M.D. Williams, TM in the forward room, center with glasses is me, James W. Barnes, EN-3 After Engine Room, on the right is Robert C. Fisher, TM in After Torpedo Room. Little story about Fisher, he was from Madison, Wisconsin, was a wrestler in college. We had a torpedo war head in a bottom skid, it had the weight stamped on it, 530 lb. Fisher wonted to move it to another skid, couldn't get any help, so he picked it up and put it where he wanted it. M. D. Williams was a judo instructor for the Navy before he came aboard Diodon. Ask Don Remily about him, I think Don remembers him. Glad to find out that DBF stands for Diesel Boats Forever, they may have been noisy and had an odor but they were not as noisy and the nukes. Greenboard and DBF Jim |
