I rode Diodon from Oct 1962 till Oct 1964. I was an EM2 and qualified on board Diodon and drank my fish at the Copacabana Air Force Club in Okinawa after returning from a northern patrol.

Just found the web site and remembering lots of good times on board the Diodon.

Remember Max and his 'smile your on candid camera" act in the mess hall. The time I led him around with the fuse pullers.

Remember on one Northern patrol we found a ship and came up to scope depth to take pictures and snapped from all angles. When the officer [don't remember name] went in to process film, [he] discovered he hadn't loaded film in his camera. Ole man like to came unglued. Had to reload and do it again.

I left the boat in Phillipines after one cruise up and down Vietnam coast to go to EM "B' School, after school went to Sabalo SS 302.

Like to hear from anyone on board that remembers me.

Hi jim

Since I just found your site I've been spending a lot of time going thru it and things are starting to come back. This Dec. will be 30 years since I retired and there has been lots of water passed under the bridge in the last 40 years or so.

I think you have done a heck of a job with the web and i congratulate you on it. Keep up the good work.

I've looked at the pictures that Weinhart sent and I believe I'm the tall one next to the chiefs. I'm about 6'5" so I'm sure I was in the back row.

I don't think i have any pictures from that period but I'll look around. Of course I still have lots of memories and stories, but I may have to clean some of them up.

Best I can remember, I stood aux elec watch the first West Pac cruise and qualified on the Northern Run. Then I went to Junior Controllerman under way and I believe I stood watch with Mike Michelson.

I thought I left Diodon in the Phillipines, but after thinking about it I believe that was Sabalo SS-302 that I left to go to recruiting duty in Nashville, Tn.

After I left recruiting duty I went to Viet Nam as an advisor and rode river boats for a year up near the Cambodian border. Me an a LT. were the last two advisors left before we pulled out of Nam.

After that, I went to Simon Lake AS-33 in Charleston S.C. and then to Rota, Spain on her where I retired. I was Chief In Charge of R3 div. which repaired all the nukes that were  out there. Had a heck of a crew, but lots of work. I thought they were some what premadonas  and couldn't compare with the old diesel boat sailors. The nukes that is.

I could ramble on but I better go check on my cattle. Thanks again for refreshing old memories.
