Sailor, rest your oar

Leroy Hill, who started his boat service in 1945, passed on New Year's Eve, 2004.

Local fella, known him for 25 years.

He served on the USS Diodon (SS-349) at the end of WWII.

The sub was based in New London, Conn.

Enlisted; 1945 - 1953; discharged date is 4/22/53.

He did Inactive Duty Training with the Naval Reserve Submarine Division
13-16, in Seattle.

Interesting story....he got out in '48, was recalled for the Korean Conflict, and while standing in the processing line was recognized by an active duty boat sailor who recognized him, grabbed him, pulled him out of the line and into an office, made some calls, and he spent the Korean War training folks on the boats in Lake Union, Seattle.

I will be doing sound for his memorial service this Saturday in Bothell.
1300 hours.
