Hi Jim,

I was aboard Diodon in 1963/ 64 . I qualified and then was transfered to the Catfish SS 339 which was leaving for West-Pac. They sent me to Camp Pendelton for three weeks training on the M-60 and the .50 cal. machine guns. I thought, oh shit, this may get serious. Did lots of shooting (was the small arms PO) but for training only.

No tangos darn it. We spent 3 months in the Golf of Tonkin.

Joined the Navy in 1962 and got out in 1966. I was a kiddie cruiser but got the involuntary extension so it was a four year tour. What a great way to grow up, too bad all young men don't get the chance to share the same experiences we had.
