Wylie Miller writes "There is no mention of the yard overhauls on two diesel boats back in the 50's when we breathed this stuff while standing below decks watch or fire watches all over the place while the yard birds ripped and cut the asbestos from the bulkheads and from around all the piping...nor is there anything about new construction and commissioning of the Teddy Roosevelt back in 1960-61. I was never referred to an Asbestos Surveillance program, but I think that's because the disease really never got any publicity until the 70's. If there is space-A medical care available at a Military Treatment Facility near you and you have been exposed, please get an evaluation as soon as possible. God Bless our shipmates....."
