Shipmates, the time has finally come for those earliest of submariners, the crew of the Hunley, to make the final leg of their eternal patrol.  The crew of the Hunley will be put to rest at Magnolia Cemetery on Saturday, April 17, 2004.

United States Submarine Veterans Inc. (USSVI) have been bestowed the honor of being pallbearers for the funeral. The funeral will require 48 pallbearers. If any member of any base would like to participate as a pallbearer contact either myself, Keith Schnebel at KASchnebel@aol.com, 843-851-7334 or our commander Steve "Buddha" Nelms at Wofat63@hotmail.com, 843-563-7115.  Volunteers will be accepted in the order we receive requests.  The uniform for pallbearers will be blue blazer with dolphins and ribbons above the breast pocket, white shirt, dolphin tie, khaki pants, leather shoes no hats or caps.  The pallbearers will walk the 4.5 miles with the funeral procession. If you want to be a pallbearer and are unable to walk the 4.5 miles to the cemetery it will your responsibility to arrange transportation to the cemetery arriving in time to remove the caskets.

If you choose to attend the funeral, the dress is that which would be appropriate for a funeral. However, vests and ball caps representing submarine veterans is appropriate and encouraged.  Events prior to the actual funeral begin on Tuesday, April 13, 2004.  I have attached a copy of all events for your planning purposes.  If anything changes you will be informed.
