Ex-Balao Sail Dedication Ceremony 1400 September 27, 2002 at WNY

The restored sail of ex-Balao (SS-285) which stands in front of NAVSEA'S Bldg 197 at Washington Navy Yard, will be dedicated in a ceremony at 1400, Friday, 27 September. RADM John D. Butler will be the keynote speaker. Rain location will be the atrium of Bldg. 201. Parking will be available near the ceremony location on Isaac Hull Road. Entry will be through the Isaac Hull Gate off "M" Street.

A picture ID will be required. For our civilian and retired members, the Naval Submarine League will be the Point of Contact for those wishing to attend. Light refreshments will be served.

The program is a joint effort of the Naval Submarine League, US Submarine Veterans, Inc, Submarine Veterans of WWII, The Naval Historical Foundation, The Naval Historical Center, Washington Navy Yard, Naval District Washington, and sponsored by the Naval Sea Systems Command. Several former Balao crew members have confirmed their attendance. Visitors are encouraged to view Balao artifacts in the Naval Museum, and the Naval Historical Center Photo Section has put BALAO images up on their web site’s on-line library:
