Subject: [vetissues] World War II Vet Graduates 59 Years Later
(EXCERPT) It may be 59 years later, but a local World War II veteran said he doesn't mind waiting for his high school diploma.
Arthur Ramirez was supposed to graduate with the class of 1943 at Central Catholic High School, but with the war in full swing, he decided to join the Navy.
Ramirez, who never returned to school, finally got his sheepskin Thursday, thanks to a law that authorizes school districts to issue
diplomas to eligible World War II veterans.
The graduate also has his wife to thank. After all, she was the one who found out about the legislation in the Southside Reporter and called Central Catholic.
Ramirez, who is now retired, spends his days gardening.
